StOP--it's a red light!

Red Light Therapy: the tech you’ve been waiting for is here.

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy is the use of low-level wavelengths to treat and stimulate the skin’s natural repair system. It is also called photobiomodulation (PBM), low level light therapy (LLLT) or photonic stimulation. Different wavelengths of light, studies have demonstrated, affect the body in various ways. Red light therapy is most effective in the ranges of 630-670 and 810-880. Scientists discovered its numerous uses in space and the original research for LLLT actually comes from NASA.

How does it work?

The red light works by stimulating the cell’s energy function or the mitochondria. When the light stimulates the cells, numerous effects and consequences occur as a result, including collagen production and tissue repair. There is evidence it cures acne, activates the lymphatic system, reduces cellulite, and even promotes smoother skin or wrinkle reduction. It also helps reduce pore size. When the light penetrates the skin, it assists the skin’s natural processes, which include circulation. New capillaries form, collagen production gets a nice boost , that is fibroblasts sprout and synthesize the prized collagen. The red light encourages the body to produce more of its own collagen. This is significant, since collagen is an important protein in our skin, comprising about 70% of its makeup. What does increased collagen do for skin tone? It gives the skin the coveted glow, wrinkle-free smoothness typified by the youth. Red light therapy can also be utilized for its anti-inflammatory effects and also helps heal the body from painful musculoskeletal issues.

What are some of the benefits of red light therapy?

Red light therapy has shown, in long-term use, to offer many benefits including sun damage repair, skin rejuvenation and smooth skin tone as well as the reduction of eczema, rosacea, and acne. It has many uses outside of the beauty industry, including medical uses, such as colitis treatment, mucosal membrane treatments and even hair balding prevention and healing. It can help fade stretch marks, and even shows evidence of reducing thyroid issues.

How to use?

There are available at-home devices, numerous ones, in fact. There are different kinds for different budgets as well. There are devices that pulsate and those that don’t. There are hand-held devices, masks, mobile stands, lamps, and hair pieces. Each device has its own instructions for use. For instance, the AVOLOGI ENEO is a hand-held device that pulsates red light when the wand is lightly pressed onto the skin. It vibrates on a micro-level and features a 24 karat gold applicator tip as well as a blue light detox light to sustain the best results. It is FDA cleared and can be operated at home. It can be used on the face and body. To get a better understanding, you can click here https://youtu.be/0ixlIlIHVTQ .

Are these devices safe?

It is always best to consult with a doctor before beginning any therapy, but these light therapy devices are mostly safe if they are fabricated by reputable and responsible companies. The ENEO is a safe product and FDA approved. Many athletes and high-end spas use red light therapy, and many devices are engineered for safety. The red light does not penetrate very deep into the skin, and it does not cause burns nor does it emit dangerous UV light.
